New video released by law enforcement shows the moment a California police officer fatally shot an unarmed 15-year-old girl who had been reported missing.
The harrowing footage released Monday shows a man in Hesperia, Calif., on Sept. 27, 2022, the day after he witnessed his father, Anthony John Graziano, 45, kill his mother, Tracy Martinez. Savannah Graziano, 15, is seen slowly approaching a police officer along Highway 15. ABC7 reported.
Shortly after, gunfire erupted and Savannah was shot down in crossfire.
“Stop shooting her! He’s in the car! Stop! She’s okay! He’s in the car! … Stop!” the deputy can be heard yelling.
The footage was released at the request of reporters under the California Public Records Act.
San Bernardino County police officers were seen pulling the truck over just before Graziano opened fire with a semi-automatic rifle, officials said.
The truck was pursued for approximately 110 miles before Graziano was unsuccessful in pulling it onto an embankment.
A police officer said over the radio, “The girl got out, and the girl and the boy got out.The boy was seen getting out of the car.” She’s out on the passenger side. ”
The officers were not wearing body cameras at the time of the incident, but audio footage recorded by a nearby officer of Savannah getting out of the car was released.
“Passengers, get off! Come here! Come to me! Come, come, come… walk, walk, walk,” he says.
Shortly after, she is shot dead by a police officer.
Investigators previously believed the boy was elsewhere at the time of his mother’s murder and was later abducted by his father.
Graziano shot Martinez multiple times, killing her. Martinez was able to identify him as her attacker before she died.
During the ordeal, San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicas said the girl appeared to be wearing “tactical gear” as she exited the vehicle.
However, there is no evidence of this in the aerial footage.
Dikas said at the time that one deputy was injured by shrapnel during the incident.
Savannah was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Her father was pronounced dead at the scene.
The newspaper has contacted the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department for comment.
