NYC mayor says women being punched in his city shows ‘corrosiveness of TikTok’

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) cited the “corrosive nature of TikTok” when discussing reports of multiple women being beaten in New York City in recent weeks.

“This version of TikTok will not be shown in China,” he said. “China, which publishes TikTok, you can’t take advantage of this in your own country. That’s why we’re going after social media companies.”

Adams also acknowledged that he has seen several videos of incidents in the city, adding that assaults seem to increase depending on what videos are trending.

“Well, I’ve seen a few around the city, but one is too many,” Adams said. “We’re seeing this trend when someone sees something on TikTok, Instagram, or any of these social media platforms. They’re replicating this behavior, and we’re seeing negative behavior and people posting on social media. There’s a real correlation between what we’re seeing trends in.”
