“Prices are too high,” Biden’s former chief of staff Ron Klain said on MSNBC’s “All In” on Wednesday. “Gasoline prices and other prices are still high and people are feeling the pinch.” said. And President Joe Biden “needs to make more progress on that.” He also said Biden “must work to use his tools to bring more order to the border and clean up the mess left behind by Donald Trump.”
Klain said Biden’s “theory” is that “the president has done a good job, he’s running on track record, and he also has a goal of making the country a better place.” And calling immigrants who come to this country, work hard, pay taxes, and do so many important jobs in our country animals is just a disgrace. So I think the president thinks he’s going to confront Donald Trump about his disgraceful conduct and his record, and he’s also going to talk about what he’s done and what he wants to do. And today’s event with Sen. Sanders (I-VT) was a perfect example of that. He also recognized the progress they have made in reducing the cost of prescription drugs. However, significant work remains to be done. I worked with President Biden and Senator Sanders to pass legislation that would allow Medicare to negotiate prices on prescription drugs. That would save the government and save seniors a lot of money on prescription drugs. Now, the president wants it to be true for everyone in our country, with similar benefits for people under 65 and lower prescription drug costs. It’s a real outcome that matters to people’s lives. The price is too high. People need more money in their pockets. So I think both confronting President Trump about his outrageous behavior and chaos, and coming up with a plan for what he wants to do over the next four years, will be critical to getting President Biden re-elected. ”
Klain said the “discrepancy” between economic indicators and Biden’s approval rating is due to the fact that “people are living their lives and want to know how it affects them, their plate and their finances.” He added that it was a thing. And prices — even though inflation has eased, prices are still high, gas prices and other goods are still high, and people are feeling the pinch. And even though wages are rising, and statistics show they’re rising faster than prices, people still feel tight in their pockets. So I think the president needs to go further on that. I think that was part of what he was talking about today about prescription drugs. Prescription drugs are a major headache for many families. And we will continue to fight to lower the prices of things that are important to our families. And he will have to make further progress. So I understand that people say they’re happy that the economy is doing well, they’re glad that there are jobs, but they want their pockets to be richer. And that’s what the president is communicating, and he’s spreading hatred and division that won’t make anyone’s lives better. So I think this is an obvious choice when it comes to questions of democracy, questions of national unity, and how to make people’s daily lives better. ”
“If Congress doesn’t act on that, I think the president needs to continue what he’s doing on border control and use limited authority,” Klain concluded. And I think that’s the right thing to do. As the campaign progresses, I think we’ll be talking about our immigrants and the contributions they make to our economy, and more generally, the inhumanity of President Trump’s comments calling immigrants animals. . …I think that’s going to be part of the campaign, but I think first and foremost the president has to do his job, which is to use his means to bring more order to the border and try to clean it up. He cleaned up the mess left by Donald Trump. ”
