Stefon Diggs trade ‘made sense,’ Bills GM says; shuts down notion of rebuild

When the Buffalo Bills acquired Stefon Diggs, they were catapulted to the forefront as one of the NFL’s elite.

However, four years later, Diggs has not been able to return to the AFC title game like he did in his first season, and is now headed to the Houston Texans.

Buffalo sent the wide receiver and two late draft picks to a young, up-and-coming Houston team for a 2025 second-round pick.

This rumor has been circulating for a long time amid cryptic tweets and Diggs missing OTAs last year. So everything “makes sense,” general manager Brandon Beane said.

“Over the last few days, it seemed like it was value for them and for us, and the timing made sense, and we worked on a deal that was finalized today,” Beane said, according to the Bills’ official website. I did,” he said.

Over the past few seasons, the Bills’ Super Bowl window has seemed to be closing. They lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC divisional round at home, their third loss in four seasons. Beane disagrees, pointing out that trading a receiver like Diggs would close the window completely.

“Anytime you make a move like this, like I said, it’s very difficult and you’re trying to win, and sometimes people don’t understand that,” Bean said. Ta. “This is by no means the Bills trying to give up or take a step back or anything like that. Everything we do, we strive to win.”

“This bill was crafted according to what we believe is in the best interest of the Bills. We can go around in circles, but I don’t think it can be put together any better.”

This is the second time in Diggs’ career that he has been traded. The Bills originally acquired him from the Minnesota Vikings, who used the pick they acquired from Buffalo to draft Justin Jefferson.

Diggs emerged as a top receiver in the NFL after being paired with quarterback Josh Allen. He was a four-time Pro Bowler and an All-Pro during his time at Buffalo. He had two seasons with double-digit touchdown catches and four consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons, extending that streak to six consecutive seasons and six consecutive seasons total.

In 2023, Diggs had 107 catches, 1,183 yards, and eight touchdowns en route to his next Pro Bowl. However, these total numbers have been brought forward significantly.

In his first six games, he gained 620 yards, with at least 100 yards in five of those games. However, he finished with 563 yards in the final 11 games of the regular season, failing to reach 90 yards in any of them.
