Amy Harris pleaded guilty in August 2022 to conspiracy to transport stolen property interstate in connection with the diary theft.
Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York had originally asked for six months of home confinement, followed by three years of supervised release.
Prosecutors say Harris has requested rescheduling of her sentencing hearing 12 times and that her attempt to “unreasonably delay” punishment is increasing her sentence.
“Defendant’s sentence must also account for how she abused the administration of justice during the pendency of this case,” wrote U.S. Attorney Damian Williams’ submission to Judge Laura Taylor Swain. “It has said.
“Defendants mislead the court with false information to justify belated and unwarranted requests for adjournments, refuse to appear in court when directed to do so, fail to comply with court orders requiring disclosures and productions, etc. , has repeatedly and consistently engaged in tactics to unreasonably delay this process. Certain Information,” the document continues. “Through this pattern of conduct, the defendant has demonstrated complete disregard for the orders of the court and the orderly conduct of this judicial process.”
According to the Justice Department, Harris discovered President Biden’s daughter’s diary, tax information, personal family photos and cell phone in September 2020 while staying at her former home in Delray Beach, Florida. .
The Justice Department said “very personal entries” were found in the diary.
According to the Justice Department, Harris knew that Ashley Biden’s assets belonged to “an immediate family member of a former government official who was a candidate for national political office,” and co-defendant Robert Kurlander. We asked for his cooperation to sell the property after acquiring it. Said.
Before the 2020 election, they sold their diary to media organization Project Veritas and received $40,000.
The diary’s contents were not made public by Project Veritas, but its contents eventually surfaced online.
One of these posts allegedly stated that current President Joe Biden would consistently ask Ashley to take a shower with him. One purported diary entry of hers said she “remembers taking a shower (probably not appropriate) with her father.”
“A sentence without prison time reflects the seriousness of the defendant’s conduct, including his clear belief that he is above the law and does not need to comply with court orders,” prosecutors wrote in their sentencing request. It would be completely inadequate.”
Harris’ sentencing is scheduled for April 9.th.
Prosecutors threatened to charge her with enhanced obstruction of justice charges if she failed to appear at her next scheduled court appearance.
Kurlander’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 12.thalso entered a guilty plea in this case.
