No Labels abandons 2024 presidential effort

The bipartisan group No Labels will not run in a third-party presidential election after failing to find a candidate.

“Today, No Labels is ending its efforts to issue a unified ticket in the 2024 presidential election,” the group said in a release Thursday.

“No Labels has always said we would only offer a ballot line to a ticket if we could identify a candidate with a credible path to winning the White House. No such candidate emerged, so we The responsible thing to do is to resign.”

wall street journal News of No Labels’ plans first broke on Thursday.

One of the biggest questions this cycle was whether No Labels would move forward with third-party ticket sales in response to the unpopularity of President Biden and former President Trump.

Leaders named former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) as candidates, then the list narrowed down as more names came forward. I said.

Last month, the group exceeded its own deadline to release an update on its strategy, extending it to mid-April. And last week, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie joined a long list of candidates who have preemptively declined the job.

Democrats have been keeping a close eye on No Label as they devote more resources and focus on third-party candidates they consider “spoiler.” But as weeks and months passed without a candidate, some readjusted their focus to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Kennedy Jr.’s choice of ultra-wealthy running mate in Nicole Shanahan does not alleviate concerns about his potential campaign longevity.

But even if Kennedy was in the race, the cancellation of No Labels’ plans further cemented the race as a showdown between Biden and Trump.

Lana Epting, executive director of the progressive group MoveOn, said: “If the reports are true, millions of people will know that No Labels has finally decided the right thing to do is keep Donald Trump out of the White House.” I think Americans will be relieved.”

“Now, it’s time for Robert Kennedy Jr. to see the writing on the wall that there is no way for any third party to win the presidency.” We must come together to defeat it.”
