A small fire broke out outside the office of socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, causing no injuries and minor damage, the Burlington Fire Department announced Friday.

Firefighters responded to a call Friday morning between the entryway, elevator and front door of Sanders’ third-floor office in Burlington.
The door to Mr Sanders’ office was damaged by the fire, and all buildings were evacuated and searched, it said. NBC5.
“The fire was extinguished and the senator’s office and surrounding offices were searched and the occupants removed. No injuries were reported,” the Burlington Fire Department said. “The door to the senator’s office sustained moderate fire damage, and the third floor and the floor below sustained significant water damage. Firefighters installed recovery covers on the lower floor to protect items from water. Did.”
Burlington Police Department, Burlington Fire Marshal’s Office, and Vermont State Police are currently investigating the fire.
“We would like to thank the Burlington Fire and Police Department for their immediate response to the fire incident at our office building today,” Kathryn Van Heist, state director for Sanders’ office, said in a statement. said. “We are relieved that none of our staff were harmed and, from what we understand, no one in the building was harmed. We also appreciate the support of the Vermont State Police and local first responders. We also appreciate the efforts of the U.S. Capitol Police and the Senate Sergeant at Arms, who are working in conjunction with the U.S. Capitol Police and the Senate Sergeant at Arms.”
Investigators said the man sprayed a possible accelerant on the office floor, lit it on fire and left.
“The extensive fire consumed a portion of the door and entryway, preventing staff working in the office from exiting and endangering their lives,” Burlington police said in a statement. “The sprinkler system was then activated and the fire was largely extinguished.”
Meanwhile, the investigation has been transferred to the Vermont State Police, who will conduct a joint investigation with Burlington police.
Authorities are still investigating a possible motive for the fire at the Vermont State Senator’s building.
