Charles Barkley, Stephen A. Smith’s remarks on immigration resurface with months to go before election

Longtime sports commentator and television host Stephen A. Smith joined Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley on the late February edition of his podcast, The Stephen A. Smith Show. .

During their hour-long conversation, Smith and Barkley discussed a variety of sports-related topics, including Barkley’s well-known distaste for the city of San Antonio.

“We all know which city hates you the most, right?…It’s San Antonio,” Smith quipped.

But then the conversation turned to politics. Smith brought up Berkeley’s CNN program with Gayle King.

Mr. Barkley said that although he was not particularly interested in increasing his workload, he believed that putting on a show was important and was happy to work with Mr. King, whom he spoke highly of.

“Honestly, I didn’t want to work and Gail didn’t want to work any more, but I had so much love and respect for Gail that I wanted to work with her,” Barclay said. Stated.

For several months each year, Barkley lives and works in Atlanta, where the studios of TNT’s popular show “Inside the NBA” are located.

Mr. King lives primarily in New York City and co-hosts CBS’s signature morning show, “CBS Morning,” five days a week. “King Charles” is filmed in New York City, with Barkley commuting to locations in the Northeast for weekly shows.

About 30 minutes into our conversation, Barclay began talking about some of the issues he noticed facing the city at the time.

“You know I’ve been here in New York for the last few months doing this show,” Barkley began.

“And you look at the streets, you look at the streets of New York,” interjected Smith.

“First of all, the border is a joke. The border is a joke. They’re busing immigrants to New York. They’re filming them kicking and punching police officers. He’s punching these two officers,” Barclay said. “They were released within 24 hours and the next day.”

“Actually, it was the same day, Charles. It was the same day,” Smith pointed out.

“Two days later, they were caught robbing a Macy’s. They beat up a police officer. How did they get out of jail within 24 hours?” Barbary added.

Smith then asked which presidential candidate they would lean toward given the country’s history with inequality, as well as the current state of the country.

“Given our history of inequality, what’s going on today, who are the candidates today in terms of (President Biden) and (Donald Trump) probably running for president, you know who’s who? Are you on your side? Charles, what do you do? Who are you? ‘Will you vote? ” asked Smith.

“We need law and order, Stephen A.,” Barclay said. “Trying to redress inequality has nothing to do with allowing people to walk into stores or rob stores.”

“I agree. I agree with you,” Smith said.

Smith’s podcast airs three times a week on YouTube. The show’s “About” section describes the podcast as a platform for Smith to share his “unfiltered opinions.”
