A jailed Venezuelan “immigrant influencer” who previously teased America to her 500,000 TikTok followers and encouraged border crossers to “break into abandoned houses” across the country says she now misses freedom. It was reported that new york post.
During a 30-minute videotelevision visit from inside the Geauga County Jail in Chardon, Ohio, Leonel Moreno whined that he was the victim of unjust “persecution.”
“I came to the United States because of persecution in my home country…but they are doing the same thing to me in the United States. They are persecuting me,” the 27-year-old said.
“Everything in the media about me is misinformation. They’re slandering me. They’re misrepresenting me in the news…I’m a good father, a good husband, a good son. I’m a good human being, I’m humble and I respect people who respect me,” Moreno said, speaking only Spanish during the video call.
“I miss my whole life, I miss my freedom!” he cried.
After Moreno spoke, the camera showed inmates wearing blue striped jumpsuits sitting at a table through a glass window. At one point, the prisoners appeared to make faces and shout something at Moreno.
“What’s going on?” Moreno was heard saying to himself.
“I’m afraid they’re trying to kill me. They’re coming for my life – anyone!”
newsweek report Immigration and Customs Enforcement documents show Moreno illegally crossed the border in April 2022 in Eagles Pass, Texas. As a result, authorities placed Venezuelans in an alternative to detention program and allowed ICE to track migrants using ankle monitors and other technology.
According to reports, Moreno has settled in Columbus, Ohio, with his wife, Veronica Torres, and their young daughter. However, because he failed to report within 60 days of his arrival, ICE labeled him a “fugitive.”
As a result, he was arrested by authorities in Gahanna, Ohio, on Friday. Federal authorities did not know Moreno’s whereabouts until his name began to spread rapidly on social media.
On Wednesday, internal federal documents indicated that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives contacted ICE regarding Moreno and that he was charged under gun control laws, Newsweek reported.
The law prohibits people on parole from shipping, transporting, possessing, or receiving firearms or ammunition.
Despite the illegality, Moreno claims it was his social media posts that got him in trouble.
“If Leonel Moreno committed a crime or something, they would be right, but it’s my job’s fault and this is unfair…Social media is my job,” he said. .
“Right now, even if I want to say something, I can’t say it…We have become a repressive country instead of a free country where people can express whatever is in their hearts…America is not here to oppress. No, that’s how it was made.” ”
