“Well, the time has finally come. I have decided that my 41st season, which starts in September, will be my last,” Sajak said. “It’s been an amazing journey. I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Thanks so much everyone. (At least the clickbait sites will be busy!)”

Sajak hosted the syndicated version of the show and the daytime version on NBC from 1981 to 1989.

A week after Sajak’s news was announced last year, it was announced that Ryan Seacrest would be taking over as host for season 42.
