NFL Draft prospect, ex-Texas star T’Vondre Sweat arrested for DWI

A top NFL defensive prospect has been arrested and charged with drunk driving.

Former Texas defensive tackle Tovondre Sweat was booked into the Travis County Jail in Austin, Texas, on Sunday afternoon. According to multiple reportshas been charged with a Class B misdemeanor after being arrested by Austin police.

Sweat was arraigned at 2:12 p.m. CT on the charge, which could carry a fine of up to $2,000 and 180 days in jail, according to ESPN.

The former Longhorns defenseman was seen leaving jail late Sunday afternoon with his attorney, who did not comment to NBC’s local affiliate KXAN News.

Swett pulled a towel or shirt over his head to cover his face as he left the jail.

It is unclear when he plans to return to court on the matter.

Neither Mr. Sweat nor his attorney addressed questions about the impact this month’s NFL Draft will have on stock prices.

Sweat is one of the top defensive prospects in this year’s draft class. ESPN ranks him 3rd best defensive tackle prospect and CBS Sports has him ranked No. 87. Overall draft outlook.

He is expected to be drafted in the second or third round after a great season at Texas.

Sweat was named the National Player of the Year and Outland Trophy winner, as well as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.

During his final season in Austin, he recorded 45 tackles, 18 solo tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks, four pass breakups, and one blocked kick.

Sweat also scored a touchdown in the Big 12 Championship Game against Oklahoma.

His name may sound familiar, but he’s also the younger brother of Eagles defensive end Josh Sweat.
