Attorney General Merrick Garland is at risk of being charged with contempt of Congress on Monday after refusing to leak the audio of President Joe Biden’s meeting with special counsel Robert Hur.
The Biden administration’s Justice Department has offered to provide transcripts of interviews with Axios’ Mark Zwonitzer, the ghostwriter for Biden’s book. reportBut Republicans say they need Biden’s records and audio to monitor the presidential secrets scandal.
“The Biden administration is unable to determine what Congress does and does not need in its oversight of the executive branch,” the House Oversight Committee told reporters.
He continued, “It is strange that the Biden administration has refused to release the audio of the meeting between President Biden and the special counsel after the recording was released.” “Why shouldn’t the American people be able to hear the actual audio of his answers? The American people want transparency from their leaders, not obstruction.”
Further action is reportedly planned for Garland’s obstruction. Republicans previously threatened to brand Garland with contempt for not producing audio.
Mr. Biden, 81, experienced confusion and “memory failure” at least seven times during the interview with Mr. Xu, according to records obtained by Breitbart News.
Mr. Xu’s investigation, which concluded in February, found that Mr. Biden “intentionally” kept classified documents but declined to prosecute, citing “insufficient evidence.” Mr. Xu characterized Mr. Biden as an “old man with a bad memory.”
