CNN contributor David Axelrod spoke Tuesday on “The Situation Room” about how the Arizona Supreme Court upheld a 123-year-old law banning all abortions except to save the mother’s life. called it a “seismic event” that could “make or break this election.”
Axelrod said, “This is putting women’s health care and women’s peace of mind across Arizona at risk. So we must never forget the essence of what this is about.”
He added, “But as a political matter, this is no more a disaster for the Republican Party. Yesterday, Donald Trump said it’s up to the people in each state. Let the states decide. Now, the states. You can see what happens if you leave the decision to the state of Florida, which has a six-week stay-at-home order. If you put it on the ballot, the majority of voters in those states would agree to those I guarantee that it will be on the ballot in the form of an initiative that I don’t agree with.”
Axelrod continued, “So I think what this does is it puts the battleground states more in Column D and then in Column R, because Arizona passed a constitutional amendment in November.
