Giannis Antetokounmpo goes down with non-contact injury

The Bucks are holding their breath after star Giannis Antetokounmpo went down with a left calf injury on Tuesday night, with head coach Doc Rivers at a “high” level of concern.

During the third quarter of the Bucks’ 104-91 win over the Celtics in Milwaukee, Antetokounmpo fell to the floor shortly after taking about five steps after inbounding the ball to Damian Lillard.

He remained on the field for some time after the Bucks called a timeout, and was eventually helped by teammates and taken to the locker room.

Antetokounmpo will miss the remainder of the game due to a left calf injury.

Bucks officials said Antetokounmpo is suffering from a strained left soleus muscle. The soleus muscle is a muscle located in the calf.

After the game, Rivers expressed concern about the Bucks star’s health, telling reporters that Antetokounmpo will undergo an Achilles tendon test and an MRI on his calf, as well as an Achilles tendon test.

“High. But he’s Giannis,” Rivers said when asked where and how concerned he is. “I think everyone probably feels the same way I do right now. We just hope for the best.”

He already played in Tuesday’s game with health issues.

The two-time NBA MVP was listed as questionable (left hamstring tendinopathy) the day before his status was upgraded to prospect.

Antetokounmpo had missed the previous three games as he dealt with a left hamstring issue that began to flare up around mid-March.

He also missed the March 4 game against the Clippers due to left Achilles tendonitis.

Brook Lopez said Tuesday of his calf injury: “Again, it’s disappointing, but I’m hoping for the best.” “We have to control what we can. Giannis is going to do whatever he can no matter what the situation is. We don’t know what that is yet.

“We need to come out game after game, play together and continue to be ourselves.”
