In an interview with Univision’s Enrique AcevedoBiden said he is unsure whether he will be able to stop the surge of migrants entering the United States through the border.
Biden blamed Republicans for not supporting a bill he said would give him authority to curb the immigration crisis. The president acknowledged that Customs and Border Protection does not have enough officers to properly screen immigrants entering the country.
“We are in a situation where, for example, we don’t have enough police officers to even interview people to determine whether they have legitimate fears or concerns in order to qualify for entry. “We don’t have the resources. Border Patrol, we don’t have enough equipment to detect fentanyl and illegal drugs coming in,” Biden said.
“We worked on this with a very conservative Republican senator from Oklahoma, and he ran on one side, the Democrats ran on the other side, and they ran for four months.
