“Basketball is the biggest group project, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported me and my team throughout my coaching career,” VanDerveer said in a statement provided by the school. said.

“For nearly 40 years, I have been privileged to mentor some of the brightest minds at one of the world’s greatest educational institutions. Ohio And as the head coach of the U.S. national team, it was an unforgettable journey.

The school is in contract negotiations with former player Kate Pay to replace VanDerveer. Vanderveer will officially retire from Stanford University on May 9, 39 years after he joined the faculty.
The school said Vanderveer will continue to work with the athletics department in an advisory role.
