Gunter, who ran this month, was registered as a California Democrat as of at least August 9, 2023, according to Los Angeles County Registrar records obtained and reviewed by Breitbart News.

A source close to the Trump campaign told Breitbart News that Gunter is “a California liberal who lies about being a MAGA.”

“He donated to Never Trump candidates, did not vote for President Trump in 2020, and will be an unmitigated disaster in the general election. Who knows Mr. Gunter is a fraud and a loser?” We all know,” the source added.

In a statement to Breitbart News, a Republican strategist working on the Senate campaign likened Gunter’s support to that of former Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-Arkansas), the worst-performing Republican presidential candidate this term.

“Jeff Gunter’s poll numbers are at Asa Hutchinson’s level because voters know him as a Democrat who most recently lived in California,” the strategist said.

Sixty-nine percent of respondents have never heard of Grady, and 67 percent don’t know about Gunter.

Additionally, Marchant’s support for Brown was far greater than Gunter’s in second-choice voting, with 30% of Brown voters choosing the former state representative as their second choice versus switching to Gunter. Only 4% of them were.

The poll sampled 500 likely Republican primary voters from April 7th to 10th. The margin of error (MOE) was plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.

Last month’s Emerson College/KLAS-TV/The Hill poll Indicated Brown is said to be highly competitive with Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) in a hypothetical general election showdown. She ranks two points ahead of Brown at 41 percent to 39 percent. Conversely, a hypothetical pairing with Rosen would give Merchant a double-digit lead and Gunther a nine-point lead.

The poll was conducted March 12-15 among 1,000 registered voters. MOE was ±3 percent.
