First lady Jill Biden on Friday accused former President Trump of being a “bully” and a threat to the interests of the LGBTQ community if he is re-elected in November.
The first lady spoke at the Human Rights Campaign’s Equality in Action rally in Virginia, highlighting the progress the LGBTQ community has made under the Biden administration and warning of the dangers of President Trump’s second term.
“Donald Trump is a bully. He is a danger to the LGBTQ community, to our families, and to our country, and we cannot let him win. Joe and Kamala will be given another term. We have to fight like hell until we finish this,” Biden said.
The first lady noted that President Biden signed legislation protecting same-sex marriage, rescinded a Trump-era rule banning transgender people from serving in the military, and loosened restrictions on blood donations by gay men.
“But there are forces outside these walls that want to erase these hard-fought gains and roll back all the progress we’ve made,” the first lady said.
Friday’s comments were the latest example of Jill Biden attacking Trump, the Republican nominee who will be running against President Biden on the November ballot. She previously cited Trump’s views on abortion and her past comments about women during the campaign campaign in March, saying Trump is “a danger to women and our families.” .
The first lady’s remarks came days after the Biden campaign launched Out for Biden-Harris, a new national initiative aimed at mobilizing LGBTQ voters. The re-election campaign has touted the Biden-Harris administration as the most LGBTQ-friendly White House in history, noting support from top LGBTQ organizations including the Human Rights Campaign, the National Center for Transgender Equality and Equality PAC.
