At one point, Mr. Patel, who was wearing glasses at the time, returned to the podium and criticized the City Council and the mayor for installing metal detectors near the entrance to City Hall. She claimed the metal detectors had no purpose other than to “criminalize” those who sought to hold leaders “accountable.” She also accused authorities of escalating violence and sometimes even leaving voters “to die.”
“You guys want to criminalize us with metal detectors? Let’s meet at your house,” she finally said.

Ms Patel then tried to return to her seat, but the person tasked with running the meeting seemed to ignore her violent remarks and awkwardly continued as if nothing had happened. But Mayor Karen Goh interrupted her proceedings, claiming that Ms Patel had “threatened” her and asked her officers to “escort” her in response.
Patel was not only evicted from the premises. She was arrested and charged with 16 felonies. Eight of the charges were for terroristic intimidation, and eight were for intimidation of elected officials. She is being held on bail of at least $1 million.
