Teen Who Allegedly Punched And Robbed Elderly Woman Attempts Suicide While In Custody: REPORT

A teenager arrested on Friday for allegedly beating and robbing an elderly woman outside a Queens church attempted suicide, the New York Post reported.

Jayvan Prince, 16, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of violent assault and robbery of a 68-year-old woman. The incident occurred on April 7, when a video appeared to show a woman being brutally assaulted and her wallet taken. The boy reportedly attempted suicide while in the custody of the NYPD’s 107th Precinct. according to to the New York Post.

He reportedly used his shirt to put a noose around his neck. Police quickly intervened and Prince was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, the newspaper reported. A spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s Office said the teenager is scheduled to be arraigned Friday night in the juvenile division of Queens Criminal Court.

Prince has been charged with multiple charges, including robbery and grand larceny. The suspect also faces separate charges for allegedly robbing another woman at an apartment complex in Queens on April 4 and then stealing her car. “The viciousness with which the defendant is accused of robbing a church strikes at the very core of our city,” Queens Prosecutor Melinda Katz said in a statement, according to the New York Post. “As alleged, he first chose to rob an elderly woman by pushing her down the stairs, then took her purse and left her languishing while he drove off. , will have to answer to serious charges brought to them by my office.”
