Is Dexter Reed the next George Floyd?

After the shooting of Dexter Reid by Chicago police, the left appears to have found its next George Floyd.

Reed, a 26-year-old black man, was pulled over by a police officer for not wearing a seatbelt. During the traffic stop, an argument ensued, and Reed pulled out a weapon and fired at the officers, injuring one officer and fatally wounding Reed.

“I think the mainstream media is trying to make this into some kind of new George Floyd,” Sara Gonzalez said before reviewing the body camera footage, which differs from the accepted narrative. telling a story.

Mr. Reed initially complied with the officer’s orders to lower his window, but then raised it and disobeyed. When the officer tried to get him to open the car door, Reed began firing at the officer.

“There’s a lot of shots being fired at police officers,” Gonzalez noted.

Eric July believes things are not as black and white as the media portrays them to be. “If you look at this without any nuance,” he says, “you’ll see that a person was shot and killed while wearing a seatbelt.”

“That’s essentially how it would be worded, but it’s not completely accurate, it’s just a little more complicated,” he said, adding that trying to shoot someone for disobeying He pointed out that it was never the right thing to do.

“This is the ultimate, extreme escalation,” July said.

July doesn’t believe the police response was the right one, but he believes the media response is making things worse.

“I don’t like when the conversation quickly devolves into competition, because at that point, it’s absolving them of everything,” he explains.
