LSU star Angel Reese selected No. 7 overall by Chicago Sky

There was no end in sight for star forwards in the 2024 WNBA Draft, as the Chicago Sky selected LSU star Angel Reese with the No. 7 overall pick on Monday night.

The pick came after Chicago took South Carolina’s Camila Cardoso third overall.

Reese’s stardom skyrocketed after transferring from Maryland to LSU for the 2022-23 season.

She averaged a double-double of 23 points and 15.4 rebounds per game and used her relentless style of play to lead the Tigers to a national title, defeating Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes in last year’s NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers made it to the Final Four again this year with Reese and future WNBA stars like Frau Jay Johnson, but this time they couldn’t beat the Hawkeyes.

Still, Reese averaged 18.6 points and 13.4 rebounds per game in 33 games, finishing the season with 34 double-doubles, the most in NCAA history.

Reese fought back tears as he heard his name called, expressing his excitement to play with Cardoso, who he has played against since high school.

Reese is also excited to be mentored by the Sky’s new head coach, Theresa Weatherspoon, a Hall of Famer who played with the New York Liberty since the WNBA’s inception.

Reese is a relentless player in the paint, and along with Cardoso, Skye is an instant presence down low, both on the court together and in and out.

Off the court, Reese has gained a large following since joining the Tigers and has been unapologetic about the way she competed, including some trash-talking over the past two seasons.
