How many ballerinas can dance on tiptoes in one place? A world record 353 at New York’s Plaza Hotel

NEW YORK (AP) – Hundreds of young dancers wearing white tutus and coiffed hair gathered at New York’s Plaza Hotel on Wednesday to break a world record for dancing on pointe.

The spectacle, held over three nights at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, was organized by Youth America Grand Prix, a ballet scholarship program celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Tchaikovsky’s music played for a full minute while the ballerina stood on her tiptoes and quickly shifted her weight from one foot to the other (a step called a bouley).

Guinness World Records judge Tina See announced the results, saying, “353, this is a new Guinness World Record! Congratulations!”
