NYPD cops kill knife-wielding man after street corner argument in Queens

New York City police say they have killed a knife-wielding man who was arguing with a woman on a Queens street corner Saturday morning.

New York City Police Department Chief Jeffrey Madley said in a press conference that an unidentified suspect was seen at about 4:10 a.m. near 103rd Street and Roosevelt Avenue in Corona before and after officers struck him with a Taser. He told reporters that he fired after he refused repeated commands to drop the knife.

Two police officers assigned to patrol the area “noticed a dispute occurring across the street. They walked over to investigate the dispute and there they saw a man with a knife. He was in an argument with the woman,” Madley said.

“Officers repeatedly ordered the suspect to drop the knife.”

“The man did not listen,” Madrid said, adding, “The officers used a Taser, but the Taser had no effect. The officers gave further commands and fired their weapon to stop the man.” ” said Madley.

The man with the knife was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he died from his injuries, Madley said.

Madley said Roosevelt Street is a “busy night area” and “we’re seeing an increase in crime, so we’re deploying officers to work here at night to keep people safe.” It pointed out.

So far this year, the number of serious crimes at the 115th Precinct has increased by 18% compared to the same period in 2023, according to police statistics. Robberies increased by nearly 50%, felonies by 13%, robbery by 70% and grand larceny by 15%.

Police are investigating the relationship between the suspect and the female victim, Madley said.
