Two children dead, multiple injured after car slams into Michigan boat club hosting kids’ birthday party

A driver crashed into a Michigan boat club where a birthday party was being held, killing two children and injuring more than a dozen others, authorities said.

The incident occurred at around 3pm on Saturday at the Swan Boat Club in Berlin’s Charter District. Two brothers, a 5-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl, were killed.

In total, at least 15 people were injured. Six adults and three children suffered life-threatening injuries and were being treated as of Saturday night.

A Michigan State Police spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the driver, a 66-year-old woman, was intoxicated at the time. The car crashed 7.5 meters into the building.

Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnow choked up multiple times during a Saturday night news conference while describing the gruesome scene.

“First responders have just stated that the scene is extremely chaotic and emotions are running high for those directly involved and those who witnessed this horrific incident.” Stated.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Goodnow called the situation “tragic” and acknowledged that a child’s birthday party was being held at the boat club at the time.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle passed through a building where children were present.” [sic] “Many people, both children and adults, sustained serious injuries during the birthday celebration. Victims were transported to multiple area hospitals,” the statement said.

In a Facebook post. The Swan Boat Club announced it would temporarily close following the incident.

“In consideration of the emergency situation, we ask that you do not come to Swan Boat Club at this time to allow access for emergency vehicles,” the boat club said in a post. “At this time, the club is closed until further notice.”

Authorities are actively investigating this incident and have filed criminal charges against the suspect, who is being held at the Monroe County Jail. Further details are unknown at this time.
