Enthusiasm for President Joe Biden in the 2024 campaign seems to pale in comparison to enthusiasm for former President Donald Trump.

When asked if the tariff policy would have a negative impact on relations with China, Biden told a colleague: “I can’t hear that.” Then Mr. Biden answered, “No.”

Like Biden, Trump often stops by local establishments. On Tuesday, a crowd of people greeted President Trump at a Harlem bodega with much fanfare. “Four more years!” a chant echoed through the Democratic Party stronghold in Manhattan. Hundreds of people apparently tried to catch a glimpse of the former president as he spoke to reporters for 15 minutes behind a fence.
“This is all politics. This is coming out of the White House. And you know, because of that, I’m going to be campaigning locally, which is fine,” Trump said in a criminal trial. He mentioned the following:

Political commentators noted the contrast in enthusiasm between the two candidates. “Biden stopped by a Sheetz gas station today in an attempt to recreate President Trump’s Harlem Bodega, where employee Jose Alba defended himself when he was attacked by a violent customer in July 2022. Only about 40% of Americans approve of Biden’s performance, well below the 50% threshold historically required for incumbents to win re-election. A recent Harvard-Harris University poll found that one in five Democrats disapprove of Biden’s performance.
