White House Refuses to Confirm Joe Biden’s Suggestion that Uncle Was ‘Shot Down,’ Eaten by Cannibals

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to confirm President Joe Biden’s suggestion that his uncle was “shot down” and eaten by cannibals off the coast of New Guinea.

Ambrose J. Finnegan died May 14, 1944, according to the Department of Defense’s Defense POW/MIA Accounting Office. The agency said Finnegan was a passenger on an Army Air Force plane that crash-landed in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of New Guinea “for unknown reasons.”

On Wednesday, while on his way to a campaign destination, Biden told a story about his uncle, whose Air Force plane was “shot down” during a “reconnaissance flight over New Guinea” during World War II.

“[He] It was shot down in an area where there were many cannibals at the time. They never recovered his body,” Biden said. “But while I was there, the government came back and inspected the plane parts and things like that and found out.”

Mr. Jean-Pierre refused to support Mr. Biden’s suggestion that his uncle’s plane was “shot down” and ignored the reference to cannibals. She seemed to align her beliefs with the Associated Press (AP).Biden “misstated key details about her uncle’s death,” says Associated Press report Wednesday.

“You saw the president. He was incredibly proud that his uncle served in uniform,” Jean-Pierre said. Said Reporters on board Air Force One. “You saw him at the war memorial, right? It was incredibly emotional and important to him.”

“When you asked me about yesterday’s moment and about my uncle, who lost his life when his military plane crashed in the Pacific Ocean after taking off near New Guinea, he said, You saw it.”
