LPGA Tour star Nelly Korda joins elite company with 5th straight win

While Scottie Scheffler is wreaking havoc on the PGA Tour, Nelly Korda is doing the exact same thing on the LPGA Tour.

Korda won the Chevron Championship on Sunday, the first major of the year on the LPGA Tour, snapping a five-game winning streak.

Korda, 25, joins Annika Solestam and Nancy Lopez as the only members of the Tour to win five consecutive tournaments. This was also Korda’s second career major win, having won the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship.

“It’s been a great feeling knowing that I can continue this stretch over the last few weeks. If I stay in my bubble, keep my golf simple in a way and just go with the flow, I can have a very, very good time here. I guess,”’ Korda said, via ESPN.

Korda made a birdie on the par-5 18th hole at Carleton Woods, Texas, allowing him to hoist the Chevron Championship trophy. She defeated Maja Stark and birdied the final two holes to move within one stroke of Korda.

Scottie Scheffler’s hot streak continues with victory at RBC Heritage one week after winning the Masters

Korda’s 13-under performance for the tournament included several highlights, including a chip-in birdie on the par-4 10th hole in the final round that wowed the crowd.

With this win, Korda earned $1.2 million from the major’s $7.9 million prize money. She earned $2,424,216 this year.

Korda suffered from blood clots that required surgery in 2022, and there was a time when he didn’t know when he would be able to return to the golf course.

“Because obviously at that time I was more scared for my health,” she said. “Competing kind of took a backseat. I never thought about competing. But I think all the sad times and health scares I went through made me the person I am today.”

She is the No. 1 female golfer in the world and miraculously hasn’t lost a tournament since January.

However, next week, Korda announced that he will be withdrawing from the JM Eagle LA Championship, so he will not be able to achieve his sixth consecutive title.

“It wasn’t an easy decision. After an incredible week at Chevron and struggling through the mental and physical challenges of four events in the past five weeks, I was definitely exhausted. It’s over,” she explained. “2024 still has a lot to offer, so I feel like I need to listen to my body and get some rest to prepare for the rest of the season.”
