At the Senior Bowl earlier this year, Jerry Jones declared that the Cowboys’ front office will be “all in” this offseason. But so far, the offseason has been mostly uneventful. Dallas hasn’t been particularly active on the free agent market either.
The Cowboys have a significant number of players on their roster who already hit a significant salary cap hit. The team is also considering advantageous contract extensions for some of its key players. But Jones, the longtime Cowboys owner and general manager, took the blame for his contract not progressing.
“If the timing isn’t right around here, it’s because I’m not ready to go yet,” Jones said.

Quarterback Dak Prescott, star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and linebacker Micah Parsons are among the star players slated to earn big paydays. Prescott has been the starting QB for the past eight seasons.
The 30-year-old’s contract expires after the 2024 season. He recently hinted that talks with the Cowboys have not yet begun, but added that he and Jones are “on the same page” about the situation.
Cowboys’ Dak Prescott enters final year of contract, has no ‘fears’ about future
“Honestly, I’m just focused on the moment,” Prescott said. “If negotiations start and real negotiations happen, then certainly we can talk to get it done, but in this case, we’re worried about whether it’s going to be better now or better than it is now. Leave it to me.” At the moment it’s my agent and Jerry. ”
Meanwhile, Lamb will continue playing next season on his fifth-year option. He could be designated with the franchise tag next year. Parsons, a three-time All-Pro, has remaining time on his rookie contract but will be eligible for the franchise tag after the 2025 season.

Mr Jones expressed interest in seeing “further action” in relation to the contract.
“You may be working on [contracts] And don’t move anything except your eyebrows,” Jones said. I’m working on it. Sometimes they show up at 2am. What you’re really wondering is why not just do something, negotiate and put it in a drawer? Well, I would like to see some more leaves fall. We want to see more action. ”
Lamb and his agent may be waiting on potential contract terms for Justin Jefferson from the Minnesota Vikings.

“You are aware that the representatives of Jefferson and Sheedy [Cincinnati’s Ja’Marr Chase] Aren’t you talking? Don’t you think they set their sights on something really big? Please,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said.
“They’re not ready to be here. Micah is the same. Duck is the same. It’s a little cat and mouse game. And full respect to them.”

Jerry cited the salary cap constraints that exist within the NFL when discussing the inevitable departure of star players over the years.
Jerry Jones said, “Dak has enjoyed some of the best supporting characters you could have around him during a career that we are all proud of.” “In order to move forward, we have to mitigate that. That’s the fact. That’s the rule. That’s our challenge, and that’s what we’re going to do to be successful. Dak is the Cowboys’ quarterback. There’s no time to blink about that.”
