Biden has now signed a bill that would ban TikTok unless it is sold to a U.S.-based company within the next year.

The Senate on Tuesday approved a bill that includes $95.3 billion in aid for Taiwan, Israel and Ukraine, as well as the possibility of outlawing TikTok.
President Joe Biden signed the bill Wednesday.
The bill gives TikTok 270 days to find a new owner, up from about six months proposed in previous legislation.
The bill also gives the White House the option to extend that deadline for another 90 days if President Biden determines there is progress toward a potential sale.
Politicians had expressed security concerns about the TikTok app because its owner, ByteDance, is obligated to share data with the Chinese government.
However, former President Donald Trump said banning the app could give power to Meta (Facebook), calling it an “enemy of the people.”
TikTok executives are reportedly planning a legal challenge to the bill, fearing it could lead to forced sales rather than an outright ban.
It could also face legal challenges from TikTok users and the app’s popular creators.
TikTok said in a statement that it was “disappointed” and that lawmakers “used the cover of critical foreign and humanitarian aid to impose a ban that would trample on the free speech rights of 170 million Americans and destroy 7 million businesses.” They are trying to block the bill again.” Shutting down a platform that contributes $24 billion a year to the U.S. economy. ”
