Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday released a video slamming anti-Semitism on American university campuses, saying the atmosphere had become like Germany in the 1930s and urging leaders to fight anti-Semitism. He called for further action.
Prime Minister Netanyahu was responding to a wave of violent anti-Israel and anti-Semitic protests at Columbia University and other university campuses. Columbia University has moved to “hybrid” online learning, citing threats to the safety of Jewish students.
Prime Minister Netanyahu, who gave a two-minute speech in English and is an alumnus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, one of the campuses embroiled in violent protests today, warned of historical precedents for today’s protests.
“An anti-Semitic mob has taken over a leading university,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. “They call for the annihilation of Israel. They attack Jewish students. They attack Jewish faculty. This is reminiscent of what happened in German universities in the 1930s. .”
He called the response of some university presidents “disgraceful” and added: “More needs to be done.”
He added that the protesters are not only calling for death for Israel and death for Jews, but they are also calling for death for America. He noted that anti-Semitism has often destroyed the societies that have allowed it to thrive.
Prime Minister Netanyahu added that the protesters’ accusations against Israel are “one big lie” and noted that this is also not new. “If you look at history, anti-Semitic attacks have always been preceded by slurs and slander, incredible lies about Jews, and people still believe them.”
He said everyone who wants to protect Western civilization must unite to stop anti-Semitism on college campuses and around the world.
Funding for the protests reportedly comes from a variety of radical sources – includeaccording to the UK daily mail, Democratic megadonor George Soros.of wall street journal Also report It claimed this week that the protests fit a strategy promoted by Hamas and other Iranian-backed groups to undermine Western support for Israel’s security.
update: The Prime Minister’s Office released a full transcript of Netanyahu’s statement.
What is happening on American college campuses is terrifying. Anti-Semitic mobs took over leading universities. They demand the annihilation of Israel. They attack Jewish students. They attack Jewish teachers. This reminds him of what happened at a German university in the 1930s. That’s disrespectful. It has to stop. It must be unequivocally condemned and condemned. But that didn’t happen. The response of several university presidents was shameful.
Fortunately, many state, local, and federal authorities are responding differently, but more is needed. There is more to do. It’s not just because they’re attacking Israel, which is bad enough, and not just because they want to kill Jews everywhere, it’s bad enough and if you’re their It’s also time to listen, and it’s also because they’re not just saying “die” to Israel. It’s not “death to the Jews,” it’s “death to America.” And this tells us that there is a surge in anti-Semitism here, and that it is having dire consequences.
As Israel seeks to protect itself from genocidal terrorists, genocidal terrorists hiding in the shadows of civilians, we are seeing anti-Semitism rise exponentially across America and throughout Western society. . But it is Israel who is accused of genocide, and Israel who is accused of starvation and all sorts of war crimes. It’s all a huge defamation. But it’s nothing new. We have seen throughout history that anti-Semitic attacks are always preceded by slander and slander, unbelievable lies thrown against the Jewish people, but people don’t believe them. I was there.
Well, what is important now is that all of us, all of us who are interested and cherish our values and our civilization, stand together and say enough is enough. We must stop anti-Semitism because it is the canary in the coal mine. It always precedes a major conflagration that engulfs the entire world.
So I ask all of you, Jews and non-Jews alike, who care about our common future and our common values, to do one thing: It’s about standing up, having a voice, and being counted. Stop antisemitism now.
