At first glance, it may seem like an inside look at baseball.
Are former prosecutors and cable TV experts discussing how much they hate Donald Trump and how deep legal trouble he’s in? Isn’t that what happens every day in dressing rooms and corner bars?
However, this Politico revealed, it’s different. These are some of the most prominent commentators in the media world, and they appear to be consulting/coordinating/colluding with their primary targets.

Even if it doesn’t, it looks terrible.
The fact that the media is part of the resistance, determined to defeat Trump at all costs, plays into the hands of Trump’s conservative supporters.
They can now say it’s a cabal, confirming all their darkest suspicions about the press determined to oust him.

Every Friday, some of the biggest names in the media join us for a secret, off-the-record Zoom call.
In its broad description, the article says its purpose is to “intellectually stress test the arguments President Trump faces as he moves through America’s legal system.” But a little later it says, “The vast majority are united in their disgust with President Trump.”
The group’s origins are said to have begun when committee staffers began explaining their work to legal commentators during a Jan. 6 hearing. I can think of military secrets that weren’t kept secret for that long.

Who’s zooming? Its founder is Norman Eisen, a senior Obama administration official and CNN legal analyst who worked with House Democrats on President Trump’s first impeachment.

He is joined by anti-Trump conservative leader Bill Kristol. Lawrence Tribe, a longtime law professor at Harvard University. John Dean, the man behind the Watergate scandal. George Conway, Kellyanne’s ex-husband, co-founder of the Lincoln Project, and regular on MSNBC.

That’s just the beginning. MSNBC analyst Andrew Wiseman investigated the futile Russian collusion allegations against Trump as Bob Mueller’s prosecutor. Why would anyone doubt his objectivity?
CNN legal analysts Jeffrey Toobin, Elliott Williams and Karen Agnifilo will be joined by LA Times columnist Harry Littman. There’s also Mary McCord, a former Justice Department official who co-hosts an MSNBC podcast.

We sometimes have guests come over, which is also new. After Trump was held accountable in E. Jean Carroll’s first defamation and sexual assault lawsuit, her attorney Roberta Kaplan addressed the group. Another guest was J. Michael Luttig, the former conservative judge who spearheaded the effort to remove President Trump from state ballots under the 14th Amendment, according to Politico. The Supreme Court rejected this anti-democratic move.
Despite efforts to justify this as a group of great people, I don’t agree with that. Even Politico acknowledged that the call could “create groupthink,” but what a shocking thought.

Cable news also boosts a lot of other coverage, especially when a particular topic is constantly covered.
All these people are smart enough to think for themselves. So it’s surprising that they lack the common sense to understand how messy Zooming can be.
