Dem judge running for appellate seat caught on hot mic implying murder defendant is guilty: ‘Going to prison for a long time’

Earlier this week, texas judge She had to declare a miscarriage of justice, recuse herself from two cases, and apologize profusely after she accidentally livestreamed comments implying the man accused of murder was guilty.

The defendant in this murder case is Jorge Esparza. suspicion It’s a horrible thing to do to him.

Several years ago, prosecutors say, Esparza became obsessed with a former girlfriend who had shaken him down, and in fact, became so obsessed that he started stalking her. At one point, he even allegedly sent her a text message threatening to harm her against the new man in her life, Ricardo Medina-Madris, 27.

The text message was clearly more than just an unnecessary threat. In 2020, Esparza allegedly shot and killed Medina-Madris shortly after the victim finished taking the woman out on her first date.

So when the murder trial against their client began on Tuesday, Esparza’s defense team was put on hold.

Dallas County Judge Nancy Mulder, was presided over by a Democrat currently running for a seat on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. As she often does, Mulder chose to have her livestream her trial. YouTube channel.

On the first day of the trial, prosecutors showed jurors a video of Esparza’s interview with investigators. Afterward, Esparza became so distraught that her lawyers claimed she had a panic attack.

Judge Mulder dismissed the jury at approximately 5:10 p.m. About 20 minutes later, the courtroom was almost completely deserted, and she returned to find herself and an unidentified man having a conversation that was recorded on Mulder’s forgotten livestream.

During the conversation, the unidentified man suggested that Esparza be placed on suicide watch for suspected panic attacks. Mulder disagreed and went on to say some nasty things about Esparza.

  • “He’s upset that he got caught.”
  • “I think he’s crying for himself because he knows he’s going to prison for a long time.”
  • “Everyone knows he will be convicted and given a lot of time.”

She also claimed that Esparza committed the murder to show his ex-boyfriend what a man he was.

Eventually, Mulder remembered that the live stream microphone was still working. “Oh, shoot, it’s still streaming!” she yelled.

The livestream video has since been deleted from Mulder’s YouTube account, but Mulder had to take some additional steps to right his mistake.

First, she declared a miscarriage of justice in the case against Esparza. She has since recused herself from two pending lawsuits against Esparza.

Finally, she apologized to Esparza’s lawyers and the public. “She deeply regrets making the statements she made that appeared to be in a private conversation with court staff in an empty courtroom,” she told The Dallas Morning News.

“I shouldn’t have said what I did, and I am truly sorry. I sincerely hope that my words do not negatively impact the public’s confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the local judiciary.”

When asked if he worried that his denials in these cases would affect his chances of winning a seat on the Court of Appeals, Mulder tried to spin the entire experience in his favor.

“Having come from the demanding position of being a criminal trial judge, I have a better understanding of how difficult a job it is, which will lead to a more compassionate view from appellate judges.” .”

She also insisted that she would continue to livestream the trial in front of her.A link to her YouTube channel remains in court Website.
