Some customers who purchased Ring security cameras may be eligible for a refund from the Federal Trade Commission.
The FTC announced this week that refunds totaling more than $5.6 million will be distributed to more than 117,000 people. Money is sent in the form of PayPal payments.
The agency said customers receiving refunds “had certain types of Ring devices, such as indoor cameras, during the period during which the FTC alleges that an unauthorized user may have accessed the customer’s video.” This includes customers.

The refunds are related to a settlement between the FTC and Amazon-owned Ring. The e-commerce giant acquired Ring in 2018 for $1 billion.

The same settlement that gave rise to the refund required Ring to implement certain “privacy and security programs” and delete certain data dating back to 2018, the FTC said.
