In a portion of an interview with CNN National Security Correspondent Kyrie Atwood that aired on CNN International’s “One World” broadcast on Friday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken responded to the demonstrations on college campuses, saying, “We… We will listen to the voices of the American people.” And we are both supposed to represent them and reflect their opinions. So we take all this into account. ” But the administration is also focused on the best interests of the United States and will not stop arms shipments to Israel.
“Looking at these protesters, you’ve said before that protests in the United States are a hallmark of democracy, but are these protests going to influence the Biden administration’s policies? Is that so?” he asked.
“In our democracy, of course, we have an obligation to listen to the American people, represent the American people, and reflect the American people. So we take all of that into consideration,” Blinken said. But again, the important thing is -.
Mr. Atwood then interjected and asked: “So why not consider stopping arms shipments to Israel?” Because that’s what they’re asking. ”
Mr. Blinken responded: We focus on what is in America’s interests and how to best reflect both America’s interests and values in our overall foreign policy, whether that be with Israel or other countries. I’m guessing. ”
In another part of the interview, Blinken said some of the protesters were anti-Semites, but others were simply passionate about Middle East issues.
