Kansas City Royals outfielder Adam Frazier submitted a potential highlight of the year on Friday afternoon after pulling off an insane home run and stealing double play against the Detroit Tigers.
In the third inning, with his team leading 1-0, Frazier chased a hard fly ball from the bat of Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows to the wall. Frazier then made a powerful leap to grab the ball over the wall and score one from Meadows, taking the lead from the Tigers.
But, not to be outdone, Meadows quickly reacted when Tigers infielder Javy Baez left first base and threw a strike to first base, completing the inning-ending double play.
Báez clearly thought the ball was a sure thing. That’s because Frazier flipped an unexpected obstacle and had to rush back to first base in the middle of third base, but couldn’t make it in time.

Frazier’s lapse was consequential, as starter Seth Lugo’s two runs would have given Detroit the lead. After nearly giving up on that round-tripper in the third inning, Lugo settled down and pitched an absolute gem, pitching seven scoreless innings and allowing just three hits.
As a Mets fan, it’s bittersweet to see Ruggs beat the Mets. He currently has a record of 4 wins, 1 loss, and an ERA of 1.66, which ranks 8th in the league. He also pitched 38 innings, the second-most innings pitched in MLB.
My Mets kept him for the first seven years of his career, but refused to make him a full-time starter, leaving him in the bullpen for most of his time in Queens. Now he’s a full-time starter and I’m happy for him, but I can’t help but think about what could have been if he had been.
