Russia Arrests Another Suspect in the Moscow Concert Hall Terror Attack

MOSCOW (AP) – A Moscow court has detained another suspect as an accomplice in the March attack by gunmen on a concert hall on the outskirts of Moscow that killed 144 people, the Moscow City Court Telegram channel said Saturday. I told you.

Tajik national Zhumokhon Kurbonov is accused of providing the attackers with means of communication and financing. A judge at Moscow’s Basmany District Court ruled that Kurbonov will be detained until May 22, pending an investigation and trial.

Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported that Kurbonov was detained for 15 days on April 11 on administrative charges of petty hooliganism. Russian independent media outlet Mediazona noted that this is a common practice used by Russian security forces to detain people while preparing criminal cases.

According to RIA Novosti news agency, 12 defendants were arrested in the case, including four who allegedly carried out the attack at the Crocus Town Hall concert venue.

The four men appeared in the same court in Moscow on terrorism charges in late March and showed signs of severe beatings. One person appeared barely conscious during the hearing. The court also ordered that the men, all identified in the media as Tajik nationals, be detained until May 22.

A faction of the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for a massacre in which gunmen shot people waiting for a show by a popular rock band and set fire to a building. But Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin, have persistently insisted, without providing evidence, that Ukraine and Western countries were behind the attack.

Ukraine denies involvement, and officials say Russia is pushing the allegations as a pretext to escalate fighting in Ukraine.
