Super Bowl champion Matthew Stafford appears to want to return to the negotiating table. NFL Network recently reported that the 36-year-old quarterback is not satisfied with the amount of guaranteed money remaining in his contract with the Los Angeles Rams.
He is expected to collect an estimated $31 million in guaranteed money for the upcoming 2024 season, according to Overthecap.com.
Rams manager Sean McVay confirmed the report, but did not provide any substantive details about a possible timeline for a potential contract arrangement with Stafford.
“I had a good conversation with Matthew,” McVay told reporters Friday. “We keep those things in the house, and he’s been working with our guys, so we keep those things in the house.”

McVay and Rams general manager Les Snead also dodged the question when asked if they thought the team could “find a solution to the contract issue.”

In some cases, NFL players may end up missing practices and other offseason workouts because they are unhappy with their contracts. McVay said the team is taking it day by day.

“We’re going to take it one day at a time and see how it goes,” McVay said. “So we’re going to try to understand that. That he feels appreciated and how much we love him and want him to lead the way. There’s nothing more important than making sure he understands that. I think that commitment is what he wants in return, so we work on understanding that. I think I want to do. ”
