President George Washington came to this moving conclusion in a 1790 letter to the Hebrew Congregation in Newport, Rhode Island: Meanwhile, everyone is sitting safely under his vine and fig tree, and no one can frighten him. ”
Washington is rolling in his grave at Mount Vernon right now.
Jews are so “afraid” at Columbia University that an Orthodox campus rabbi recently called on students to “return home as soon as possible.” The situation at many so-called “elite” universities is dire, jihadist mania has replaced Black Lives Matter, and trendy pseudo-moral causes are corrupting the minds of impressionable Gen Zers.
Hamas’s useful campus idiots are, at best, sycophantic idiots. They do not understand that Zionism (the national liberation movement of Jews in their ancestral homeland) is the very essence of “anti-colonialism” and “indigenous rights” that they claim to champion. They are ignorant of international law and how statutory doctrine dictates that Israel has the best legal claim to Judea and Samaria (i.e., the West Bank). They don’t know anything about combat. John Spencer, director of urban warfare research at West Point, has demonstrated that the death rate for Israeli combatants and civilians in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war is “historically low for modern urban warfare.”
Why should inconvenient facts get in the way of the thrill you feel when supporting a chic social justice movement, a genocidal terrorist organization?
This activity, which is currently upending Columbia, Yale, Harvard, and other morally bankrupt universities, is being carried out in clear support of foreign terrorist organizations recognized by the U.S. State Department. Colombian mini-jihadists wearing keffiyehs recently shouted “We are Hamas!” and “Long live Hamas!” Other agitators in Colombia called for “burning down” Tel Aviv, a liberal secular city that would remain in Israeli hands under the possibility of a future settlement with Palestinian Arabs. At the University of Michigan (where my speech in November was taunted by a pro-Hamas mob), student Hamasniks distributed pamphlets that read, “Freedom for Palestine means death for America.”
Admire their candor.
becomes terrible. At Yale University, a Jewish student was stabbed in the eye with a flagpole and taken to the hospital. At Columbia University, a Jewish parent accused her husband of picking up their daughter, a freshman, and taking her away from jihadist-infested campus grounds to “refugees fleeing a war zone.” He said they were similar.
This is completely unacceptable.
Jewish students have the same basic Title VI rights as other students. These rights must be enforced. Many of the organized actions that are inflaming these campuses also violate federal laws that prohibit material support for terrorism, on the one hand, and conspiracies to strip individuals of their constitutional rights, on the other. .
Furthermore, as I recently argued at a panel sponsored by the Institute for Intercollegiate Studies in Cambridge, Massachusetts, much of the craziness currently unfolding on campus under the guise of “speech” is not actually speech at all. . Impersonating the Hitler Youth and calling for the genocide of Jews is not protected speech under any private university’s code of conduct. Furthermore, displaying the Palestinian flag is by no means an act of “speech.” It is an act indistinguishable from waving a Nazi swastika.
Where are the elected officials to protect Jewish civil rights, the administrators to suspend and expel unscrupulous actors, and the prosecutors to prosecute jihadists? Incidentally, the Palestinian Justice Students organization, which organizes much of the campus unrest, is firmly past the deadline for major terrorist financing prosecutions, such as the 2008 Holy Land Foundation trial.
The basic formula for fighting back against Hamas’s helpful campus idiots is simple. Suspend, expel, arrest, prosecute, and, if necessary, deport these disgusting mini-jihadists.
It is long past time to send in the National Guard. What we are dealing with on college campuses right now is a massive, almost systematic conspiracy to deprive Jewish students of basic equal rights. Today’s Hamas supporters are the spiritual, functional, and legal descendants of Orval Faubus, who was at Little Rock Central High School in 1957. At the time, President Dwight Eisenhower was right to send the 101st Airborne Division to ensure civil rights. You’ll need it again.
It is perhaps fitting that now is Passover on the Jewish calendar. At Seders earlier this week, we read in the Haggadah: For not just one person has risen up against us to destroy us, but in every generation they have risen up against us to destroy us. And blessed be the Holy One, deliver us from their hands! ”
It’s always been that way.
But for now, we must restore order on campus by any means necessary.
