Paige Spiranac is slowly adding elements of the past to her current golf game.
In a candid post shared on Sunday The long-time golf influencer revealed to X how she keeps score in her rounds after previously judging her worth based on her performance on the course.
“I played junior golf, college golf, and a year as a pro. After that stretch, I mentally couldn’t stand golf, especially keeping score. I kept my scores to myself. It may sound silly, but competitive golf is really mentally crushing. But I found that passion again! , and began to hone my game,” Spiranac, 31, wrote.
She concluded her post by sharing a photo of herself at Austin Country Club, the previous venue for the WGC Match Play Championship.
“I’m here to tell you about my journey!” exclaimed Spiranac. “I shot a 73 this round at Austin CC.”
Spiranac played golf at the University of Arizona and San Diego State University before turning professional.
The social media giant has been open about his struggles in the sport for years, sharing on a 2023 episode of his podcast “Playing A Round” that he felt “mentally exhausted” on the pro circuit. Ta.
“I played golf professionally for a year and was mentally exhausted. You fail more often than you succeed in golf, and I was doing it in public. I said, “I should quit.” It’s better to give up. You can’t,” Spiranac said.
“All these things, and I had already been dealing with mental health issues for years and years and years and years and tried so hard and just fell short, and I was broken. Honestly, I was cracked. I was broken. I just quit. I said, ‘Maybe I’ll come back,’ but I never came back to play golf professionally.”
A particularly painful moment for Spiranac came when she broke down in tears during a press conference after missing out on the 2016 Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, talking about the cruel comments she had received from trolls.
Spiranac pointed out in 2023 that although he has recovered from the ordeal, there are still feelings he cannot shake.
“Honestly, I can’t sleep at night because I feel like a failure. I can’t wrap my head around the fact that I wasn’t successful, whether it was as a gymnast, tennis player, or golfer. It’s really hard to think about.” It was tough. “It’s really difficult because I felt like I could do it, but something was just missing,” she said.
“But instead of sitting back and feeling sorry for myself, I picked myself up and threw myself into media work. My background in just working hard has really served me well in my media career. Because I work incredibly hard. That’s the difference, and I think the harder I work, the more successful I am. For me, it’s a more fulfilling journey than professional golf…the results are positive.”
