Former UFC commentator and mixed martial arts broadcaster Jimmy Smith has given a scathing review of former UFC champion Ronda Rousey, saying that when she fought in the promotion, the staff couldn’t stand her and called her a bully. He said he equated them.
Smith served as a commentator for the UFC for a year (2018-2019) before moving on to other promotions and eventually WWE. While hosting his show “Unlocking the Cage” SiriusXMSmith responded to Rousey’s recent comments that Rousey is “the greatest fighter that ever lived” and that her only losses in her last two fights were due to concussions.
Rousey maintained that had it not been for the head injury, she would have continued to have the upper hand. Smith questioned her belief that even though Rousey suffered a severe concussion and was unable to fight, she was able to have a career as a professional wrestler.
“I’ve never been a religious person. What they always say about God is that he gets all the credit and takes no blame. That’s what Ronda Rousey wants. ” Smith began. “She never gives credit to the people who actually hit her. Her idea that ‘she quit MMA and went to WWE because she had concussion issues’ doesn’t make sense.” he continued.
Smith then offered insight into Rousey’s further comments about the animosity towards her from people in the industry, including media figures like Joe Rogan.
“I was disappointed to see everyone so willingly sided with me,” she told Chris Cuomo on his podcast. When asked if she understood why members of the media didn’t call her to apologize for not knowing about her concussion, Rousey said, “I don’t think they’re a bunch of idiots. “I understand,” she replied.
“That’s what I understand. I understand, ‘Fuck you.’ I don’t want to have such fake friendships in my life, I would rather such people expose themselves,” she added.
In response, Smith said he would “leave something to Rhonda.”
“Ronda, if you’re listening, talk to the people behind the scenes, the cameramen, the audio people, the people you can push down, the people you can bully. I can’t stand your motherfucker. .”
“Everyone who had to put a microphone on Ronda Rousey backstage couldn’t stand her. When I asked why, they said, ‘She goes from the moment she sits down to the minute she stands up. ‘She was so horrible to us.’” As if it was our fault she had to do this interview…and she was miserable and mean and said, ‘We are her. ‘I can’t stand it,”’ Smith recalled.
Smith went on to give information purportedly hearsay from UFC employees, saying he was told staff were “cheering when she got knocked out.”
“These are people who can be mean and rude and who can’t fight back. Those people couldn’t stand Ronda Rousey, so I’m sitting here and saying, Please don’t call me a victim,” the announcer continued. “The poor guy sitting behind the camera is doing his job and you’re making fun of him and you’re being mean to people who ask questions while we’re promoting your fight. Please don’t give me this victim** Don’t waste my time with that. ”
Smith also spent three years as a professional fighter, finishing in 2006. He finished with the following records: 5-1 With four submission wins.
He also worked for MMA promoter Bellator, the Discovery Channel, and the show “American Ninja Warrior.”
