House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) called on President Biden to visit Columbia University as students at Columbia University and other universities across the country demonstrate against Israel’s war in Gaza.

At a press conference, Johnson announced that he would lead the House Republican leadership and the chairs of six ranking committees in conducting a wide-ranging parliamentary inquiry into instances of anti-Semitism at these demonstrations.

Asked if he thought Biden should go to the Ivy League in New York City, Johnson said, “Yes, I do.” Johnson himself visited the school last week and spoke to anti-Israel agitators at a public press conference after meeting with Jewish students who said they felt unsafe on campus during the demonstrations.

Prime Minister Johnson said he contacted the White House immediately after that visit.

“In fact, after we left campus, I called the senior policy adviser at the White House. The president was out of town, as was I, so I couldn’t get through right away. But… I encouraged him to go and see me, “it’s for myself,” he said.

Fox News Digital has asked the White House for a response.

Earlier Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Andrew Bates issued a statement condemning the occupation of a campus building known as Hamilton Hall by student protesters at Columbia University.

“Throughout his life, President Biden has spoken out against offensive, anti-Semitic slurs and violent rhetoric. As with other tragic and dangerous hate speech recently, President Biden has spoken out against offensive and anti-Semitic slurs and violent rhetoric. “We condemn the use of the word,” Bates said. “President Biden respects the right to freedom of expression, but protests must be peaceful and lawful. Forced occupation of buildings is not peaceful. It’s wrong. And hate speech and Hate symbols have no place in America.”

The arrests of students from Columbia University and its sister school, Barnard College, for setting up an encampment on the grounds of an Ivy League school in Manhattan have sparked a wave of anti-Israel demonstrations on college campuses across the United States. It happened while things were happening. Protests against Colombian investments in companies with ties to Israel have continued ever since.

The committees involved are the Committees on Education and Workforce, Energy and Commerce, Oversight, Judiciary, Means and Science, Space, and Technology.

This investigation is an expansion of an investigation led by Education and Labor Committee Chair Virginia Foxx, R.N.C.

In his own remarks during a press conference, Fox announced that a new hearing on the matter would be held on May 23. She has invited officials from Yale University, the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of Michigan to testify with her, she said.

“Enough is enough. We need to restore law and order, academic integrity, and moral decency to American higher education,” House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik of New York, who serves on the same committee, said at a press conference. It’s time to recover.” Joe Biden has been deafeningly silent. ”

Other committees will focus on parts of the investigation that are relevant to their respective committees’ work.
