Josh Hart’s pregame nutrition isn’t taught in health class, but it works for him
The Knicks star might be a nutritionist’s worst nightmare when it comes to consuming large amounts of caffeine and sugar before games.
In fact, he joked that he was “fighting” with team nutritionist Erica Whitman about it.
But given that Hart averaged a series-high 44.7 minutes per game and was dominant on the boards in the final minutes of games, it seems like the copious amounts of caffeine and sugar aren’t helping. Hard to argue.
So what exactly is his pregame routine?
“I take 300 to 400 milligrams of caffeine (before a game), Mike and Ikes, and I’m like, let’s get ready to run around,” Hart said.
Hart said he doesn’t run during the offseason, but playing so many minutes during the regular season helps.
“Luckily, I’ve never been too sick,” Hart said. “When you run like a bat out of hell for 40 minutes in 81 games, you’re in pretty good shape.”
Of course, caffeine and candy can also help.
Hart’s love for Mike & Ikes is well known, and a candy brand even sent him a box of candy with his face on it.
He posted an image of himself holding a special box on the X with the caption, “My dream came true!” @mikeandike Big things happen. ”
Her love affair with Candy dates back to her high school days, and Hart told the Post in December that she had to go to great lengths to be satisfied while playing in college at Villanova.
“I’d throw the Mike and Ike box inside my hoodie, ’cause if they saw me with it, they’d make me throw it away. So I’d sneak it and I had to hide it,” he said at the time.
The star will have a chance to help the Knicks shut out the series at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night after defeating the Sixers in Game 4 at Wells Fargo Center over the weekend.
The Knicks have not advanced past the first round in consecutive seasons since 2000, when they reached the NBA Finals in 1999 and then lost in the Eastern Conference Finals.
