Bodycam captures moment hero first responders save 11-month-old baby’s life

New York police and other first responders save an 11-month-old infant from a fentanyl overdose on body camera footage — and while detectives investigate the father’s exposure, an unrelated woman does the same. Prosecutors said he died from Bach’s drugs.

The boy survived, his father was charged with child abuse and other crimes, and his father’s dealer was charged with other crimes in the woman’s death, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney’s office announced Monday.

Body camera video taken in January and released this week shows police arriving at a home in Lake Grove, New York, and attempting to resuscitate a child, identified only as John Doe, who was not breathing. The situation is reflected.

If that doesn’t work, they call an ambulance. En route to Stony Brook University Hospital, the ambulance stopped and a Suffolk County police medic was able to board with additional expertise and equipment, video shows.

Rescuers administered Narcan, an opioid antidote, and the child immediately began crying. This is a good sign.

While her mother, who was also in the ambulance, cheered her on out of sight, one of the rescue workers called out to her, “Let’s go.”

The identity of John’s father has not been made public to protect the privacy of the 11-month-old. He is described only as a 35-year-old man from Lake Grove. He is charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Suspected drug trafficker Robert Mauro, 39, is charged with manslaughter in the woman’s death, as well as numerous drug-related crimes and one count of tampering with evidence.

After the infant overdosed, police searched the father’s cell phone and identified Mauro as the suspected drug supplier, prosecutors said. During the investigation, county police found a 31-year-old Patchogue woman dead in another subdivision. Her cell phone also displayed details of her alleged drug dealings with Mauro.

Police executed a search warrant at his home on Miller Place, where he allegedly tried to throw evidence out the window, which police recovered.

Prosecutors said in another conversation found on Mauro’s cell phone, he allegedly told someone he “passed out” for hours after taking the drug himself. claims he knew how powerful his drugs were.

Both men are being held without bail.
