Antisemitism in U.S. ‘Hearkening Back to the 1930s in Europe’

CNN host Dana Bash said Wednesday on her show “Inside Politics” that pro-Palestinian protesters harassing Jewish students on college campuses is an example of anti-Semitism in the United States. “It’s reminiscent of the 1930s in Europe,” he said.

“We begin with destruction, violence, and hatred on college campuses across the country,” Bash said. “This was the scene just moments ago at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Police and protesters clashed. 12 people were killed. Hours earlier, protests rocked the University of Arizona, where campus police used chemical irritant munitions to remove protesters, while pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian groups attacked each other at UCLA. And before that, the NYPD cleared Columbia University after protesters barricaded themselves in a campus building. 300 people were arrested at Columbia University and the City University of New York, but it’s unclear how many were actually students, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said this morning. I warned you that you were doing it.”

She continued, “Many of these protests began peacefully, with legitimate questions about the war, but in many cases their plans failed. They called for a ceasefire, Now, the day before Hamas terrorists slaughtered more than a thousand people and took hundreds more hostage, there was a ceasefire that brought us to this moment. I speak to an American-Israeli family whose son is still in Hamas captivity since that terrible day. We don’t hear pro-Palestinian protesters talking about it now. , protesting the way the Israeli Prime Minister is pushing for a retaliatory war against Hamas. Making Jewish students feel unsafe in their schools is unacceptable, and there is too much of it right now.”

After playing a clip of a Jewish student being blocked from admission to UCLA, Bash said: “What you just saw is Los Angeles in 2024, back in the 1930s in Europe. And I don’t say that lightly. The fear of Jews in this country is now palpable.”
