Fire severely damages LA County fire station

A fire destroyed much of the Los Angeles County Fire Department early Wednesday morning.

The destruction inside Station 164 in Huntington Park also included a fire truck and a medical emergency unit, according to the office of Janice Hahn, a regional representative for the county Board of Supervisors who inspected the scene.

Firefighters at the station were woken up just before 4 a.m. by a report from a passerby.Additional units were called in before the fire was extinguished at 5:17 a.m.

According to the police, no injuries were reported.

“This was a tragedy. We will find out what happened, but in the meantime, we will take care of the firefighters who bravely descended from their bedrooms in T-shirts and flip-flops. I grabbed the hose to fight this fire and save my home,” Hahn said in a statement.

The employee was temporarily reassigned to another fire station. Hahn said resources will be provided to ensure response times are not affected.
