More Than Half Arrested For Campus Protests Were Outside Agitators, University Says

According to CNN, more than half of the protesters arrested at New York University (NYU) in late April were outside agitators, the school claimed.

The NYPD arrested 133 people at Gould Plaza on April 22, but only 65 were current students, faculty and staff, the university announced in a news release Wednesday. according to On CNN.

“As president, I never thought I would have to rely on the NYPD to ensure the safety of our community,” University President Lisa G. Mills said, according to CNN. (Related: Pro-Palestinian protesters cause chaos on campus)

NYPD clashed with protesters during the April 22 demonstration, destroying tents and making several arrests.

Most of those arrested were released on citations for trespassing, but four were charged with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration, the NYPD Deputy Director of Public Affairs told the Daily Caller.

Exposing outside agitators at New York University comes as the NYPD and Mayor Eric Adams claim that the majority of the 283 protesters arrested at Columbia University and the City University of New York (CUNY) were also outside activists. This came just one day after the NYPD press conference.

“There are a number of different individuals that we know from years of involvement in protests, not just in our city, but in other cities, and have ties to them, and the changes in tactics that we described yesterday. We’ve all witnessed this training,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence and Counterterrorism Rebecca Weiner said at a press conference.
