Gavin and Stacey to return for last-ever episode on Christmas Day, BBC confirms | Gavin & Stacey

The final episode of hit sitcom Gavin and Stacey will be broadcast on Christmas Day, the BBC has confirmed.

The show, which was watched by more than a quarter of the UK population and became the most popular scripted show of the past decade, will finally return five years after its dramatic cliffhanger.

The BBC acknowledged the show by referring to Corden’s oft-quoted character Smithy ordering a takeaway curry. The final episode of Gavin and Stacey!!! Coming to BBC One and iPlayer on Christmas Day this year. ”

The comedy series revolves around the titular characters Gavin and Stacey, played by Matthew Horne and Joanna Page, and follows the long-distance relationship between Billericay, Essex, and Barry, Wales.

The program aired for three series from 2007 to 2010, and was rebroadcast in 2019 as a special celebratory program, ending with an unanswered proposal.

At the episode’s climax, Jones’ character Nessa gets down on one knee and proposes to Smithy, but viewers don’t get to hear his response.

The episode was watched by 11.6 million people, breaking the show’s own viewing records and marking its biggest festival ratings success in over a decade.

Jones previously denied rumors that the series would be revived. The Welsh actor told RTE Radio 1 in February that this was “sadly just a rumor”.

The show stars Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb as Gavin’s mother Pam and father Mick, while Melanie Walters and Rob Brydon play Stacey’s widowed mother Gwen and eccentric uncle Bryn.

During that time, he moved from BBC Three to BBC One and won multiple accolades, including both a BAFTA and a British Comedy Award.

In 2009, at the height of the show’s popularity, Brydon released the song “(Barry) Island in the Stream” with the help of Comic Relief, which featured him alongside Sir Tom Jones and Robin Gibb. Achieved No. 1 in the UK.

Corden left the CBS Late Late Show and Carpool Karaoke last year after eight years in the US.
