Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen (Republican) Said Nebraska is “not complying” with the Biden administration’s recent changes to Title IX, the Nebraska Examiner reported Friday.
“It is my duty to protect our children and women’s track and field,” Pillen said in a statement, according to the Nebraska Examiner. “The President’s new rules threaten women’s safety and their right to participate in women’s sports. Nebraska will not respond.”
Last month, the Biden administration announced final changes to Title IX that add protections for transgender students to federal civil rights laws regarding discrimination based on sex. The changes will take effect in her early August.
“These final rules build on the legacy of Title IX by making clear that all students in our country have access to schools that are safe, welcoming, and respect their rights,” Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a statement. “There is,” he said.
Pillen’s statement comes in conjunction with other Republican-led states opposing the new Title IX rules, including Florida, Louisiana, Wyoming, South Carolina and Oklahoma.
Last Thursday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said in a video on social platform X that Florida “will not comply” with changes to federal civil rights law.
“Florida refuses. [President Biden’s] We will try to rewrite Title IX,” DeSantis said. “We will not comply and we will fight back.”
“We’re not going to allow Joe Biden to try to inject men into women’s activities,” DeSantis continued. “We will not allow Joe Biden to violate our parental rights, and we will not allow Joe Biden to abuse his constitutional authority to try to impose these policies on us here in Florida. I’m not going to tolerate that.”
In a statement to The Hill, a national spokesperson for the LGBTQ advocacy group Human Rights Campaign said, “Politicians in places like Florida, Louisiana, and Oklahoma are already rushing to oppose critical protections for students in America’s schools. “There is,” he said.
“These MAGA politicians are choosing theatrics and hateful rhetoric over protecting and advancing the needs of our state’s students,” Brandon Wolf said in a statement. “Refusing to comply with Title IX can have a negative impact on schools, including the significant loss of hundreds of millions of dollars in funding that could be used to help young people achieve academic excellence.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) also said in a statement to The Hill that the DOE is “taking strict measures to fully implement Title IX’s legal guarantee that no one will be subject to sex discrimination under federal law.” “We went through the process and created the final Title IX regulations.” It’s a funded education. ”
“As a condition of receiving federal funding, all federally funded schools are required to comply with these final regulations, and schools across the country We look forward to working with the community.”
The Hill has reached out to Pillen’s office.
