Anthony Rizzo delivers again as Yankees beat Tigers again

In one inning and just one swing on Saturday, the Yankees scored more runs than they had in nearly all of their games in a week.

A day after his heroics with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning, Anthony Rizzo hit a three-run homer to cap off a four-run game and lead the Yankees to a 5-3 victory over the Tigers in the Bronx. .

Before Saturday, the Yankees (22-13) had not scored more than two points in any game since scoring 15 points at Milwaukee on Sunday.

Rizzo changed things with one swing in front of the Yankees’ bullpen. Luke Weaver’s 2 1/3 innings and Clay Holmes’ 4-out save were key, extending the scoreless streak to 16 1/3 innings and sealing the victory.

Aaron Judge added two hits before being ejected in the seventh inning. He singled in the first inning, reversed and scored, and added an RBI double in the third inning, scoring on Rizzo’s home run.

He briefly expressed displeasure at being called for a third strike, and was immediately ejected by home plate umpire Ryan Brackney, the first of his career.

Clark Schmidt got the Yankees off to a good start, giving up three runs in five innings before handing over to the bullpen.

Holmes recorded a save with three or more outs for the second consecutive game after making a five-out save against Baltimore on Wednesday.

He has now pitched 16 innings with no earned runs to start the season.

In the third inning, 1-1, Anthony Volpe led off with a walk and Juan Soto singled.

Judge then hit a double into the left field seats for a 2-1 lead.

Next, Rizzo appeared and hit an inside fastball into the right field seats for a three-run shot.

It was his fifth home run in the past 12 games.
